Walk the fence line between 285 West Huntington Drive and 301 North Baldwin Avenue on a Friday evening in July, and the same warm breeze carries food-stall smoke on one side and a string quartet on the other. Santa Anita Park and the Los Angeles County Arboretum share a property line, a peacock population, and, this summer, most of what there is to do in Arcadia after 5 p.m.
That is the argument of this guide. If you already live here, you do not need another list of restaurants ranked by TripAdvisor. You need to know that two neighbors, less than a quarter mile apart, are running parallel event calendars that hit almost every weekend from mid-June through late August. Plan around those two addresses and you have a season.
The two-address summer
Arcadia is a wide city with a lot of block-by-block texture, but the summer programming is unusually concentrated. On the racetrack side, the July 4 America's 250th Celebration anchors the holiday weekend, followed by two full runs of the 626 Night Market and the usual live-racing dates. Across Baldwin, the Arboretum is opening a new rose garden, hosting Pasadena POPS on the event lawn, running its Summer Nights Friday concert series, and handing over three days in August to the Cactus & Succulent Society of America's 59th Annual Show and Sale.
If you have out-of-town family visiting, you can plan an entire long weekend without leaving a one-mile radius. If you have kids old enough to wander but young enough to still want you nearby, the same is true. That is unusual for a suburb of this size, and it is worth building your July and August around.

The park's public schedule this summer runs on three tracks: live racing, a July 4 headliner, and the return of the 626 Night Market for two separate weekends.
